AmandaDavid and Kim,
I don’t usually post, but I feel that my story might be beneficial to you.
I had a beautiful baby girl in September. She is SWCAH. She is the happiest baby I’ve ever seen and no one would ever guess she needed medication.
I had quite a bit of tramau during my pregnancy. First they did the typical sono at around 20 weeks and could not decide the gender. The tech thought it was a girl, then thought no maybe a boy, and utlimately decided she would check again at my next visit in four weeks. When I went back she checked again, and still was unsure. At that point my doctor decided to send me to a specialist, just in case. The specialist felt that there may be a problem, felt it was ambiguous genitalia and give a list of possible causes, CAH being one of them. He sent me to another specialist who performed a MRI and another sonogram. She felt it was a boy and that there was nothing to worry about. At that point I was happy with that answer, so we didn’t press on. She said, "I’m 95 % sure it’s a boy and the only way to be 100% would be to perform an Amnio." I spoke again with the first specialist and although he was happy for us, I could tell he still felt something was wrong.
In September we were completely taken off guard when we were told our baby had ambiguous genitalia. We spent several tearfilled days in the childrens hospital trying to determine what was wrong.
Abigale is now 5 months old. She has mild veralization, but it does not look like she has a penis. Keep in mind that on a sonogram, nothing is completely clear. Also, babies are often swollen, so it may amplify anything that is there.
I know that the unknown is very difficult. Feel free to email if you would like to chat. I’ll be praying for you!
