Can steroids cause colic in CAH infants?
Feb. 25th, 2005   8:18pm

Hello,

I have a 3 month old son who is a classic SWCAh.  He is on prednisone .33 ml. three times a day and on flurinef 1mg.

We noticed that since he was three weeks old (and had just come out of the hospital where they started him on steroids), that he has had unexplainable bouts of heavy crying complete with a hard stomach and the closed fists. he cries hard every day, usually around 5-8 p.m. He cries so hard that he has had a fever over 101 and we have had to double-dose him with the prednisone.

My questions: Can the steroids/flurinef be causing his colic? How many are out there with CAH infants with colic? Any remedies to lessen his pain?

I read that the steroids can cause stomach upset, even bleeding. Also saw a post here about gastroenteritis asking if the steroids can cause this. Now I am wondering if there is a link.

Thank you for all your help!

Margaret
