AmandaWelcome Catherine,
I have a 5 1/2 month old SWCAH daughter. She is the absolute joy of my life, however things were shaky at first. She was diagnosed a few days after birth. As the other parents have mentioned, it is overwhelming at first. The medication seems a little overwhelming. I hated watching my daughter push her lips together and cry when I gave her the florinef. I had a huge amount of grief and guilt that I had somehow caused this, which I knew then was not true. It took me about two months to snap out of it. One of the things that helped me the most was meeting Sandra and talking with Lesly. They were both so supportive and could identify with my feelings. It was great to watch Sandra’s adorable boys playing and realize they were normal in every way just as Abigale is.
I hope this board will bring you some comfort. The more you learn, the more you will feel comfortable with CAH. As Sandra said, it could be a lot worse. Thank God CAH is treatable and maintainable!!!
I’m glad that you have a supportive and positive husband. Things will get better! Just remember, that everytime your son smiles he is telling you how much he loves and adores you!
If you ever need to talk, feel free to email anytime!!
