My daughter had both her tonsils and adenoids removed when she was 6.  She is now 16.  It helped tremendously.  She stopped  having a sore throat, throat infections, ear infections - and she stopped snoring!  Recovery was no different for her than any other child except we had to stress dose before and after the surgery.  Good luck.
