RebeccaMBack in June 2004 I received a similar response....
Dear Rebecca,
I am sorry to hear about your daughter. Please note that the current
anti-doping regulations were prepared with the intention not to restrict
access to sport but to make it a better place for clean athletes by
weeding out the cheaters. Therefore, the Code has made provisions for
therapeutic exemptions, allowing athletes with medical conditions to have
the right to the best possible treatment to return to or maintain a
normal state of health. To find out more about this, you may visit our
website and read the International Standard for Therapeutic Use
Exemptions (TUE).
Obviously, we are unable to predict whether these standards will change
over time and how, but let’s say that if your daughter was ready to
enter competitive sport today, she would have to apply for a TUE to her
national anti-doping agency (using a standard form sign by her doctor -
accompanied with the necessary diagnostic proofs). The agency’s TUE
committee would then evaluate the application, determine if all criteria
are met (page 9 of the standard) and render a decision.
We thank you for your interest in doping-free sport and we wish you and
your daughter the best!

about ability to compete
Hello,
I have a daughter who was born with salt wasting
congenital adrenal hyperplasia and has to take
florinef (salt retention) once a day and cortef
(steriod) every eight hours for the rest of her life.
I read on a CAH forum recently that people have been
allowed to compete in the Olympics that had to take
these "replacement" drugs? She is only a toddler now
but I wanted to be able to let her know that truly
nothing is out of her reach (even the Olympics!) Can
this be confirmed somehow? If I have written to the
wrong place, please let me know and I apologize for
taking up your time.
Thank You
Rebecca
