louisehi jolyn! i have to ask this................are the doctors saying he has cah simply b/c he has low blood sugar???? if so, there is a problem! cah CAN cause low blood sugar, but there is MUCH more to cah. did he pass his newborn screen??? just to put things in perspective-a non cah child will typically have a 17ohp below 200 ng/dl. the cutoff for SC newborn screen is 4000 ng/dl, meaning above that would be flagged as a positive screen. my son-who has salt wasting cah-had a newborn screen of 16,900 ng/dl!! ok. clearly he has cah, but his glucose was never below 40 throughout the whole stay in the pediatric ICU. the lowest it got was 52. hope this helps. in my opinion, if your son has a normal 17ohp while NOT on meds, he does not have cah.
