Sorry to hear about their loss.  Did they not have the shot? Did they stress dose? Did their doctor explain to them what to do in case of illness?  Did they not take her to the ER? Did she have other medical issues?  You are right about awareness. I hope parents know exactly what do do to avoid something like this happening.  I will pray for them and their family.
