SandraI wanted to post what Lynn T posted down below because I too have received some phone calls from new parents who were just so horrified and upset thinking that their child would die of CAH at any minute. They had not read Lynn’s post down below just the post from Cherry about another angel being taken. I have not spoken to the Ireland family so I don’t have any more information as to what happened but I wanted to post here what according to Lynn, Mrs. Ireland told her. Here is what Lynn posted:
Since I have been receiving several emails that borderline panic about CAH babies still dieing in this day and age I feel compelled to explain that Katie, although very sick and vomiting often, officially died from aspirating on her own vomit while she was sleeping in her bed. Her mom did all that she could to revive her but it had gotten into her lungs and she wasn’t able to recover from that.
This is how the Ireland family explained it to me and I am sure that they wouldn’t want parent’s with new born CAH babies to be alarmed that this could happen to their baby.
I don’t mind talking with any new parents that want to email me or call me. That is what helped me when my 1st son with CAH was diagnosed. If it weren’t for those wonderful ladies and Danny’s great message board, I think it would have taken me much longer to get out of the funk I was in. I missed 3 months of my son’s life feeling dazed and I don’t want any of you new parents to feel that way.
What happened to this family was terribly tragic. I donated to help out the family and I pray for the parents and the family. It is hard to read and not worry that this can happen to your child but it is important to know that the aspiration of vomit is not caused by CAH. It was an unfortunate thing that happened but it can happen to anyone. Even to people that don’t have an illness but lets say drink too much and pass out.
I am not saying that CAH is not serious...it is. I am just saying, to the new parents, please don’t be afraid or paranoid because of this. It was very sad and very unfortunate and like someone posted, it’s hard to understand why this beautiful little girl was taken from her family but it was not because of her CAH. At least that is what the mom told Lynn T in their conversation. I think it’s hard to know exactly what went wrong. We may never know the full story. Just watch your child when they are sick, stress dose, talk to the doctor and be aware. I think most of us do that already with all of our children not only those that have CAH.
Thanks and please don’t forget to donate what you can to help out the Ireland family. It is important that they know how we all care for their loss and please, if you are religious, say a prayer that they somehow can find peace with this terrible tragedy.
