Yes, this girl obviously needs help but unless she is completely stupid she has gone the wrong way to seek it!    There are trained counsellors (i.e. psychologists) to whom she can express her thoughts openly and learn to come to terms and live with her condition, not speak to a journalist!

My daughter is 14 years old, has had surgery and was quite confident and knowledgable about her condition. The surgery we have always told her is a private matter rather than a secret and she has told only her closest friends about it.  How private is it, when  headlines such as the one of this post are splashed across a magazine article?  She never considered herself a ’freak’ yet after accidentally coming across this article (which uses the word) is now asking if she is one and certainly never considered suicide but is now terrified and worried about who else may have seen it and is fearful of returning to school after the Easter holidays.  Her confidence and happiness is shattered all through one silly girls whim - so yes, I am angry and upset  and do not feel any shame for condemming this article and both the thoughtlessness of the girl who appears in it and even more so the journalist who exploited her!
