We met with new Endo last week.Any Canadian families get the Meningitis Vaccine for baby 2 and under

And he was a great doctor. Since we are in Canada he recommended that we take our daughter (SWCAH) to a pediatrition. Which doesn’t bother me, since we have had bad luck with the family doctors here in town. So back to our doctor to get a referral. :)

One thing we were surprised to hear was that he told us Solu Cortef isn’t used for crisis. He told us that the only reason we would use the injectable would be if our daughter wasn’t able to take her medicine orally. In the US we were told we had to have the injectable in case of extreme stress. I am a little skeptical about what he told us. That is what our daughter’s endo always told us in the US. Even on this board, where I first learned about the Solu Cortef, I was told it was for times of extreme stress and to keep it on hand.

We didn’t know that the 5mg Cortef tablet was unaproved here in Canada. Our endo had to sign papers and give special permission for the pharmacy to order them in for us. Otherwise we would have had to goto a 10mg pill, and would have had to quarter the pill for our daughters dose of 2.5mg. That would just have been too much. They already don’t cut well some of the time.

Another question I wanted to ask here was about the Meningitis vaccine. I guess they do it here in Canada for children under two. Since they don’t offer it in the States the health clinic nurse recommended that we get her the shot. She said it was like the Chicken Pox Vaccine. That it may not work as well with someone (like our daughter) who has a lowered immune system. Just wondering anyone’s thoughts on this. Not sure if I really want to give her the shot or not.
