HI Lisa,

We have a similar situation with Chelsea...she hates constrictive clothing and prefers to sleep in the buff like Ashley. My question to you may be a bit sensitive, but it is something that happened with Chelsea, so I feel I should share it with you...I’m sure your ped or endo may have suggested this to you as well, but here goes.....Is it possible that Ashley is self stimulating when she is sleeping, or before she goes to sleep? Chelsea did this and it caused the same kind of thing you are describing.  We discussed this with our ped and we explained to Chels as sensitively as we could that, while this behaviour is normal, and not anything to be ashamed of it must be done in moderation and attention must be paid to how hard one is rubbing. Unfortunately, we found that once the labia was irritated it was even more difficult for her to "leave it alone" as it was uncomfortable. We made a deal with her that she would be rewarded for "not using the behaviour", and low and behold, the irritation and redness went away. It is not something we even have to talk about now. Chelsea is 9, so the girls are close in age. This did happen a while ago for Chelsea though. I know it is a tricky subject and one that Ashley may not want to "own" if it is the case, but even if you talk to her about it, you may find that it stops as mysteriously as it started. I hope this helps and you are not offended...it was just a very similar experience we had.
