Lisa V.Hope,
My daughter Ashley (10yrs SWCAH) was put on Dex when she was around 4 or 5 years old. Her levels were out of control and the corted was not helping her. So we switched. She has gained weight with the dex. Weight is a major side effect and so is lack of growth height wise. Her endo said that as long as she had grown by each appointment he will keep her on the dex. I like that the dex is only twice a day instead of three times a day, but I don’t like the weight gain. She eats very healthy and wants to starve herself so that she will look like her friends. So she eats broiled meats, fruits, water, milk, reduced fat cheese, wheat bread, reduced fat peanut butter and so on, but the weight is still creeping up.
When we go to the endo on May 6th I am going to ask him about switching to another drug because as she will be entering puberty in the next couple of years I don’t want her to be overweight which will cause more health problems for her. She has shown growth at every appointment we have gone to since switching to the dex. She recently grew 1 inch in a 30 day period which made me very excited. Now only if it would happen again :-)
Anyway, good luck with the switch and Ashley’s levels have always come back good.
