re: Any good books on the "Birds and the Bees"? (kinda off topic)

Ahh Laura,

The joys of inquisitive children!  Chelsea has asked this already (she is 9) and here’s what we told her. Since she already knew (as does your daughter) that babies come from their mommy’s tummy, we explained to her that when a mommy and daddy really love each other, sometimes in private they snuggle together and hold each other really close and that babies are created when ADULTS show this special love to each other.  If she knows that boys and girls have different parts (Chelsea did)  you can elude to that fact by saying the different parts are very important in the snuggling. This was enough to satisfy Chelsea then. Since then she has wanted to know more, and we have used an anatomy book to clinically explain it to her, stressing that it should only happen between two adults who are in love and financially, and emotionally ready to have a child and take care of the baby. We were heavy on the details of financial responsibility (such as having a good job, a house, money in the bank, insurance, etc) to try to impress upon her the need for this to be an adult issue.

The questions certainly make life interesting!

Blessings,
