re: When did you start giving the responsibilty of taking meds. to your child?

Brayden just turned 8 in February.  He has been taking care of his own meds for about a year.

Taking care means..... he knows he has to take his medicine. He knows where it is. He checks the time, goes to the cabinet and takes the correct dose. He knows when to take a half cortef and when to take a whole cortef. He knows when to take the florinef.  Sometimes he forgets the time. Although he does it I am checking up on him.

"Brayden did you take your morning medicine?"

" Did you take your night time meds?"

Etc.....

Usually, he says "Yes". Sometimes he says, "Oh yeah... " and goes to take it.

I am reassured when I see his water cup.

He’s pretty good!

But he is still a kid so I keep track too.

There is a huge amount of trust involved. I have to trust that he really did swallow his pill. I have no reason to doubt him..... but I follow up anyway.
