Welcome to the board. CARESFOUNDATION is an EXCELLENT source of information. My daughter that is almost 8 had a very low reading last year at this time. My daughter’s endo. felt comfortable with this range but soon it went too low and we had to adjust the meds. I have a good relationship with my daughter’s endocrinologist. From diagnosis I told him I would know CAH better than him one day. Education is power. The more you know about CAH the better. Know this. EVERY child is different. Therefore what works for one child will not work for the other at times. My endocrinologist told me that treating CAH is almost like a trade. You learn to fine tune the treatment to each patient differently. No two are alike. Like snowflakes I guess. Yes there is a particular guideline they all go by. But sometimes my endo. will look at my daughters bloodwork and say, "Well the OHP is a bit low but the renin levels are high so we will adjust this or this." and so on. One can be elevated and he keeps the dose the same and say we need to check the bloodwork in a month to see if it changes. So it really depends on your endo. and your child. Here is my advice DON’T BE INTIMIDATED BY YOUR DOCTORS! If he makes you feel that way, find another endo. From day one I told my endo. after he examines my daughter I need some time with him by myself to answer my literally a list of long questions. I always take grandma or someone with me to take her out of the room so I am not distracted. I bring my list of questions and get my answers. He is a patient man and says he sometimes finds himself learning some things from my questions. We have a good communication. I made sure of that. I NEEDED to do that. My daughter’s health relied on that. Doctors are sometimes intimidating. I learned the hard way at my daughter’s birth that I need to realize they are not. Respect your doctors but in no way shape or form should you feel intimidated by any questions you are asking him. If I get attitude from any doctor or hospital staff I meet, I politely ask for someone else. There is no room for attitude when I am dealing with my daughter’s health.

As far as the bone age goes, yes it is normal. We too have had many bone age Xrays done. Most show up under her age than above. I too freaked out until I talked it over with her endo. He said he would rather have it a little below than over. Can’t take years off bones if it is too high. If it was drastically under, than that is a problem. PLUS, think of this. How many children get their bone age done? That is NON CAH children. Children ALL grow at different spurts. I am sure if we did a bone age on all children you would see their growth a little behind at times. So please don’t worry.

Feel free to email me if you want, continue to come to the board, and definately go to CARES foundation website. I may not have all the answers, but I can find someone that does, and I will definately support you in any way I can. Just click on my blue name and it will take you to my email address. Any blue names on the board include an email address. Take care,  welcome and God bless!
