LauraWell, I think this didn’t help Friday’s episode. First of all, my daughter has had a few of those episodes where she was tapped out from the heat. The stomach ache (without diarrehea) and the headache. Well after I posted here she got her head ache back with a vengence. I gave her some Motrin and she continued to rest until both the stomach ache and headache subsided. It took about two hours. The next day she woke up with a stuffy nose and cough. My husband was so kind to share his cold with my daughter. SO, by afternoon she was back laying on the couch not hungry and a fever started. Low grade, about 101 F or less. So I gave her the Motrin again, made her drink some ice water, and doubled her dose of Cortef. She laid around but was in good spirits. I thought ok her fever broke she was ready for our Saturday night pizza. I was tickling her on the couch and she was laughing. I got up to sit on the couch next to her when all of a sudden she barfed. I mean she barfed everything she had in her system. This usually happens to her when she gets a fever. It is just her usual. But I didn’t think this was that bad of a fever to bring this on. Through the day she had been coughing her head off so I think all the plegmn in her cough she brought up and swallowed didn’t help her stomach. She got done barfing, smiled and said, "I feel GREAT! When will the pizza be here?" So with our rule of thumb we wait for about 15 minutes depending on her condition which was excellent at this point. Gave her a triple dose of her Cortef and watched her. Her coloring was perfect, she wanted to play, she was up and laughing like nothing happened. Usually she is pale and dark bags form under her eyes. I asked her constantly do you feel loopy, are you feeling tired, or funny. She said mom I feel great. Soon the pizza arrived and much to my protest, she ate a piece. I let her eat slow. I know, how dumb to give pizza after a barfing match. She ate that and drank water. I limited her to one piece. Soon she was asking for more. Saying she was STARVED. So I gave her more once I knew the barfing was over. Her fever this morning has subsided thus far but I know how it can rear it’s ugly head. So we keep a vigilant watch over it. She has a nasty cold and thus far she says her stomach is totally fine. So strange. What an exhausting weekend. Her urine is strong this morning that is causing her pee pee to hurt on top of all this. Ugh. I said oh my gosh every emergency has happened that could. From the barfing to the fever. Ironically I am taking my first job substituting for a teacher aid tomorrow. I have been so nervous because I was afraid she would get sick. We have no one to watch her if she gets sick and has to miss school. So of course this weekend exploded my worry levels. My husband will stay home with her tomorrow since he too is sick. I pray I stay healthy since I am trying to make a good first impression on this school so I can work there in the future. I am so tired now I am slap happy and can’t type. Look at my typos and mis spelled words. Ugh.
And I want to say this before I log off. Every child is different. What works for one child may not work for another in this situation so don’t base your child vomitting, or fever on my child and how we stressed dosed her. MANY need to give the injection of Solu Cortef when their child vomits. There have been times she has recieved the injection and had been taken to the E.R. This was one of those cases that I knew she was in good condition and the oral stress dose was enough for that hour. So please make that mental note. Thanks for the ear, and the support. God bless. I am off to bed.....at 10:30 in the morning... zzzzzzzzz
