Success with CAH
May. 23rd, 2005   11:12pm

I am a 24 year old male with SWCAH, I nearly died as an infant due to the fact my SWCAH was undetected. I have a severe form of the condition. I call it a condition because growing up my parents never let me call it a disease, it wasn’t an excuse I could use and they never used it for me either. I have lived a normal life up to this point outside a couple of times when I gained a large amount of wait under the supervision of unqualified doctors, or I would like to say so. As a 3rd grader I was up to 130 pounds and as an 8th grader I was 145 and very healthy. I have always been active in sports through high school and still today. I played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. I was able to attend Purdue Unversity and gradaute with the opportunity to work almost anywhere in the country I pleased. My question is have I just been totally blessed. I read about people talking about their kids being disabled because they have CAH. I am grateful that I am a male with CAH because I know it is a lot more complicated with women. I guess I just want to know if there are a lot of other positive stories about people with CAH. I hate hearing negatives about CAH. I feel special that I have CAH and it is something that has made me stronger as a person. Don’t confuse my life as easy, it hasn’t been but I have been able to do everything I have ever wanted.
