John KPaul,
Thank you so much for the post. I think we all love to hear a positive story about a child/adult that has done so well for them self. I know for me it is great to hear that a male has done so well for himself as I have to boys with SWCAH 15 and 12.
My 15 is very active in sports (all) and hanging out with his Friends. We also do not allow our boys to use the word "disease". In my mind the meaning of a disease is something that inhibits your life in some form. I know that CAH does inhibit some life’s more that others, we have just been really lucky with the health of our boys. Do I not worry every time they go to friends for the night or go hang out with friends with no adult supervision, of course, but I do not let my boys know that. I make sure to remind them to take their meds and stay out of trouble. I do not want them to think they are any different from any one of their friends.
We have had several conversations with the boys about CAH and they know how serious this condition is and they must care for themselves better than others. Children are who parents make them. If you tell your child they are stupid, ugly, retarded or different than others, they will then grow up that way!!
Thanks again!!
