re: Success with CAH

I’d like to say that our son Caleb almost died when he was five weeks old due to not being diagnosed. His first year of life we had many trips to the hospital and what seemed like a lot of illness compared to his two older non CAH sisters.

Now at 8 years old we treat him like your parents treated you. CAH is a fact of life and something that we live with. Training him to take his meds every day is our main focus but we don’t treat him like a "sick"child. He’s not sick unless his meds get messed up or he throws up. Line him up next to 10 other boys his age and nobody could pick him out as a child with a medical disorder.

We have had very few bad days since his first year. No hospital trips or even trips to the ER that were CAH related. I guess we’re some of the luckey ones. There are great kids with great parents who just seem to get sick more often. Feel blessed that your not one of them.

I don’t know what the future holds for our sweet little boy but I feel he can live his life like our other children and do whatever he wants to do as long as he sets his mind to it.

For now we have a very postitve story. We also have a great doctor that has kept him healthy and cares about our son very much. I wish every CAH child could have it as easy as you and Caleb.
