Hi Angie,

This is a clear indication of Precocious Puberty.  Another visual indication is excessive growth, usually 3+ inches per year and breast buds.

A Pedi. Endo. will request x-rays for bone growth and blood testing to determine if your daughter has estrogen in her system.

My daughter was tested when she was 6 years old.  She tested positive for all symptoms.  Although she did not have pubic hair, she did have underarm hair accompanied by odor.  She was using teen deodarants as early as age 6.

We chose not to put her on medication to stop puberty.  Back then the drugs were new and the first patients using them had not yet entered their child bearing years and we were concerned about her future.

According to her Pedi. Endo., girls stop growing 2 years after their first menstration.  Since we did not put her on the drugs, we were told to expect her to get her first period between the ages of 8 and 10.

We got lucky, our daughter did not get her period until she was 11, she is now 14 years old.  Since she had the extra years of excessive bone growth she reached the height of 5’10’’.  I am only 5’5" and my husband is only 5’8".

Good luck to you and your daughter,

Allison
