My understanding is that your stepson definitely needs to take his medications. Hydrocortisone is an essential steroid replacement, I believe. Lupron is generally used to postpone adolesence as I understand it.

On a more positive note, so long as you get a good endocrinologist and do what they say, the condition is not that difficult to manage. But treatment is essential.
