Flavia,

I dealt with this too when my daughter was first diagnosed, but for her Grandmother’s religious reasons. Your stepson will die if you do not treat him. My daughter would die if we didn’t treat her. No amount of prayer will save them if you don’t use the tools the Lord gave us in the form of modern medicine to treat this condition. My daughter is on Cortef and Lupron.  The Lupron is not forever, though your stepson will probably be on it for 6 years or so...Chelsea has at least 2 more years on it (she’s 9).  If your stepson gets sick, he cannot fight off the illness without the Cortisone....his body just doesn’t make enough for him to fight disease. He will most definately eventually die, and he will suffer terribly in the meantime from one cold, or flu, or virus after another since his immune system is not capable of operating without the assistance of chemical cortisone. Please direct your family members to this site, or print out the pamphlets and give them to your family to read. It is vital for your stepson. You didn’t say if your husband is one of the ones debating about meds....I hope not. If it is more distant family members than that, simply tell them you are his parents and you will make the best decisions from the information the doctors give to you. Yes steroids are not good for your body, but the lack of natural ones is worse. I wish you the best of luck, and if you like, please email me directly.

God Bless,
