We mention it just enough to explain why the kids can’t go sleep over at their cousins’ at the drop of a hat. My sister has watched the kids over night, but only because she took it seriously enough to make us feel comfortable. Linda doesn’t like mentioning any more than necessary. I have a tendency to talk too much, so she’s probably right. I think because the CAH (and the resulting need for good health insurance) is the main reason I stay at home and Linda works, an arrangement neither of our extended family approves of, they tend to doubt that it’s as serious as we say.

Also, since my mom was diabetic, and I have a sister and a brother who are now diabetic, the family is used to potentially serious health conditions. On Linda’s side her mom has always had health problems, and her dad died of cancer a while back, so they also aren’t as phased with health problems, either.
