Oversuppression/Undersuppression
Jun. 10th, 2005   1:55pm

I don’t know if Ashley (SWCAH 10 years old) is over or under suppressed.  But her weight just keeps creeping up.  She is very active in sports and PE and I do not let her eat a bunch of junk.  But her gut is getting very big.  She is having trouble buttoning the pants that we bought her for christmas.  Her thighs have gotten a little bit bigger, but her calves, face and arms are not.  There’s just this huge gut!  I have asked the endo about this and he says that I am feeding her too much.  We eat mostly fruit, veggies, water, milk, juice, low fat crackers and yogurt and all our meat is grilled.  We rarely have dessert and we don’t do fast food.  We do go to chuck e. cheese when we see the endo.  But that is only 3-4 times per year.  So I’m thinking that it’s the meds.  The endo and I have gone round and round about this.

What I want to know is should I push him to switch her back to Cortef.  She is currently on Dexamethasone and Florinef.  Her height has increased very little this year and I know that she is extremely self concious about her stomache.  He doesn’t want her to go back on the Cortef but he is not giving me a reason why she should stay on the dexamethasone.  And he has not returned the email that I sent him a couple of days ago.  He simply thinks I am feeding her too much, but I know that I am not.

Anyway,  any helpful advice would be appreciated.
