LauraSince I have found so MANY different ways people dose (ie: giving the biggest dose at night instead of early morning) I would like to know what time everyone gets bloodwork done.
1. What time do you have this done?
2. Do you always keep that same time or around the same time?
3. Do you give regular medications that morning? Do you have you (if you are an adult with CAH) or your child with CAH fast that morning?
I ask this because I have noticed when I asked before on this board everyon was different. At first our endo. told us to go when it was convienient. This was when my daughter was an infant. Then I took it upon myself to always keep the same time of day. I know your body uses the cortisol at different times ect. So I tried to keep it consistant. He never directed me to do that. Not sure even if it mattered. But I did it. I also give my daughter Florinef when my daughter wakes up, not with the first dose at 5:30. SO I usually take her to get blood work as soon as she gets up. (takes and hour to get to the hospital from here) I tried giving her Florinef early with the 5:30 dose of Cortef and seeing if it changed the bloodwork results. I think it made a difference.
Also I was told if the child is hysterical it can elevate I think the OHP a bit. I can’t remember which one since my daughter is older and it doesn’t bother her to get bloodwork. Also if your child is coming down with something it can tweak the levels. AND if the child was stressed dosed, we need to wait to get bloodwork done. This I found true because we had a bad winter one year when she was stressed dosed from being admitted in the hospital with a respiratory virus. We thought we waited enough time and her levels were HIGH. So we brought her meds down and they eventually plumeted too low. So we contributed the HIGH reading to all the stress dosages she received months prior. This CAH can be such a gray area I swear. I guess like the doc. said, this is truly a trade to learn in treating the disease. Now last night my daughter complained of foot pain. She gets this frequently. I think it is from growing. So I gave her Tylenol. AND she is on a new antibiotic from that sinus infection she started with in May. SO I wonder if this will change her bloodwork results. I know this is long but I had all that on my mind and wondered if anyone had any input. Everyone really shocked me to say they gave the bigger dose of Cortef in the evening. I thought EVERYONE gave that big dose in the morning. SO since I thought that answer was interesting I thought I would ask this. I ask this because I am still not clear on what is the best time to get blood work. Thanks for your input.
