Hello new dad, and welcome. I am the mother of a 9 month old son with SWCAH. The results of his newborn screening came back when he was 10 days old, and not a moment too soon...his doctor said that he wouldve been dead by morning if they hadnt came back when they did. I live in VA and I’m VERY thankful this state checks for CAH.
I can sympathize about the lack of medical information an adopted person is given in most cases. Im an adoptee myself, 27 years old, and found my birth family almost 3 years ago. CAH does not run in my family that I’m aware of, but my birthmother’s mother was also an adoptee, and has been dead for many years and never knew any of her medical information either. I’ts possible that it there were or are people with CAH on her side of the family. I can tell you, it sure is nice to finally be able to give an answer to doctors when they ask " Does ____ and ____ run in your family"?
Hope your little guy will do great and you will have some answers soon.
