re: Treatment for Early Puberty - side effects??

My daughter with CAH was treated for early puberty from the age of 5 until she was 13.  She took monthly injections of depot Lupron.  To be honest, she did not suffer any ill effects from the shots - only a little soreness the day of/after the shot (I wouldthink that would be normal with any shot).  We applied Emla cream about 1 hr prior to administering the shot.  After about 1 year of running her to the pediatrician to have them give the shot, I started giving it at home.  That’s when we started using the Emla.  It worked beautifully for numbing the area prior to the shot.  Not that she didn’t feel it, but it wasn’t as bad.  At the age of 13 we discontinued the shot so that she would not be too far behind her peers in puberty.  Everything resumed normally and within about a year to 15 months she had her first menstrual cycle.  She was able to attain a height of about 5’3-1/2" tall which is great in my family (we are all very short - I am only 5’ tall).  If early puberty is an issue and you are also trying to attain more height, I would recommend the shots if that is what your dr suggested.  I hope this helps.  Please feel free to contact me about this at any time.
