KarenActually, regarding the 18-25 year old Amish kids, at age 18 they’re expected to go on (something, can’t remember the name of it) where they are supposed to break the rules and try out living in the modern world. The thought is, that they’ll quickly realize that the Amish life is far better and return home more committed to their simple ways. I think it takes a lot of confidence to send an 18-year-old kid whose been so very protected out to see how others live. Heck, my stepson is 17 and I’m scared to death about what he’s going to experience in the next few years!
