My daughter wears a Medic Alert bracelet and it says "Adrenal Insufficiency - may need stress dose hormones."  I have been assured by the endo and pediatrician that any emergency medical personnel will know what that means.  I recently had a conversation with a young man who is a friend of my older son and is a fireman.  They are all EMT’s here in my county and when I asked him if he would know what that meant, he did.  He was not familiar with the name of the disorder (CAH) but he knew what the bracelet meant.  Addison’s is another adrenal disorder and it is much better known, so he knew about adrenal insufficiency.  He also assured me that they look for a bracelet, necklace, etc to see if the person has a medical condition.  He knew that they would call the phone number to get specifics about the condition and emergency contacts.  After speaking with him, I was reassured that the bracelet will do what it is intended if my daughter is ever in an emergency situation.  By the way, Medic Alert will keep all the information you want to give them on file and you can change it as often as you want to.  They are available 24 hrs a day, 365 days a years.
