Our 2yr old son went into crisis on Saturday.......
Jul. 4th, 2005   9:20am

My wife went to wake him up around 9am (he usually wakes US up around 7am) and found him unresponsive/unconscious.  She immediately called "911" and an ambulance arrived in 15 minutes and immediately gave Luke the solu-cortef shot.

I was an hour away at the time.....playing golf with some co-workers (that was a LONG ride to the hospital!).  When I got to the emergency room, there were 3 doctors and 5 other emergency staff member circled around my son on the bed.  They were popping needles in all over his little body and he didn’t flinch once.....a sure sign that we was still out of it.

His blood sugar level registered at 20........the normal range is 80-120 and his body temp was 92.4 F.  The staff pumped a ton of sugar into him and continued with extra cortisone.

About 90 minutes later he finally snapped out of it and woke up.  We still don’t know for sure what caused this crisis....but the doctors suspect it might be the result of sinuses.  Luke made such a great recovery that he didn’t even have to stay overnight.........and instead was out running around at a picnic that evening.  No wonder.....he had enough cortisone in his body to launch him to the moon!

All told, it was a frightening day.........there were no advance warning signs that he was getting sick or that his body was in crisis.  I hope to God that this never happens to Luke again.
