I debated for a long time with my second child whether to take DEX or not.  unlike in USA it is not common practice where I am from .  I researched all i could and talked to other women but in the end decided against taking it.  I think that my decision was finally made because there are no guarantees that there are no side effects to the children in the long term.  Although it appears to be unlikely as they have not found anything in the short term.  I just don’t think that enough research has been done.  Also, it can have bad side effects for the mother, one being emotional.  i felt that although i would not mind the side effects on me, if I would be effected the foetus could also be, and how can the emotional side effects be measured.  Also it only benefits one out of eight possible children i could have had.  I have since given birth to another girl and she is affected with CAH and has the virilisation.  however, I do not regret my decision as it was an informed one and mine to make.  in fact i think that it is lovely for my older daughter to have someone to grow up with who can share the same experiences.  she did not have the opportunity to not have the virilisation.  I have not opted for surgery for either girls.  We have had no problems with my older girl and so far the baby is doing great.  I don’t know what i would do if i was to have another child.  I wouldn’t rule out the dex as many women take it.  I would just recommend to research it as much as possible and make your own decision.
