Hi Kimberly - Actually I do have some ideas for you. I also live in a small town, surrounded by other small towns that all have their own ambulance rescues. We are working with all 4 towns and they each know about the other and my son. Each of your town/county firehouses, which have their own individual rescue ambulances, obviously must have their own dispatch too (whereas my town has their own dispatch but two of the others go through their local police stations instead, but they can all use the same software) - if I am correct in undertanding that you would call them instead of 911. Believe it or not, there is software out there (assuming they work by computer - I would assume so for address purposes) that can be applied to any computer system that they should be able to obtain that would allow for them to red-flag. Your problem would be getting everyone of those firehouse’s to have this software - not an easy task as I am sure they won’t want to spend the money. What you could do, after they insist that no such software if available (as we were told several times!) and all they could possibly do is maybe red flag by address but not by name, is to then find out the name of the person who runs the emergency services for children in your area. Go directly to the top and don’t give up until you get an acceptable answer. Good for you Kimberly for understanding and trying to improve a system that could potentially fail your child without upgrading. As far as each ambulance carrying the solu-cortef, sure - why not? It is certainly cheap enough. However, I am certain that they all probably carry solu-medrol anyway and most endo’s consider this an acceptable substitution in a crisis. If not, I do know that many others have just gone ahead and paid out of their own pocket for the ambulances to carry the solu-cortef instead. Or perhaps if you can find anyone else in your local community(s) in the same boat as you, and along with your endo’s help, you too could change your states formulary to carry the solu-cortef. If we could do it, trust me anyone can. Your endo will need to help on that one. Also, speak to the person in charge at each and every one of those firehouses as to whether they know of any child protocol systems in place in your state. if the answer is no, definitely speak to that person at the top of the helm of your state’s emergency services for children and ask about child protocol systems that are being started in other states working directly through 911 and find out if these individual firehouse/ rescues can jump on board. I hope I have helped get you started. Please let me know if I can help in any other way Kimberly. Good luck and please keep in touch. Have a great weekend.
