LauraI am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. But how fortunate you were to have had that last moment with him. How beautiful was that? I will keep you in my prayers.
As for the diabetis. That is something I will be curious to hear from others for. I can speak for myself saying that on my husband’s side of the family his uncle (his father’s brother) has juvenile diabetes. (meaning since he was 12) Then my husband has a cousin that had a son that was just diagnosed with juvenile diabetes a couple of years ago. It has been my silent worry since he was diagnosed himself that my daughter could develop it. The uncle is actually my father in law’s half brother. They share the same mother and I believe that uncle had a cousin that had juvenile diabetes also. But she may have been from the uncle’s father’s side, seperating that gene some how. But no one did a test to see where it came from. I believe and I could be mistaken that diabetes effects the same part of the adrenal gland that CAH does. Please correct me here if I am mistaken. But that is a very good question. Now on my husband’s side again, his grandmother developed diabetes in her adult life just as her own mother did and I feel my mother in law is on the brink. My husband has always reacted poorly when he has not eaten. He is in great shape but has always had hard times when he skips a meal. Making me always wonder if his sugar is off. On my side of the family my father has developed diabetes just recently in his 60’s, and his brother in his 50’s. So it surrounds me. I am pretty doomed myself.
