Does it cause genital ambiguity even in late onset?

Usually not, but some may end up having a clitoris thats not to hard to find. May end up getting larger without treatment.

Does everybody have to be on steroid therapy or does it just depend on the severity?

Some have decided not to receive treatment, usually for fear of steroids. Many end up years later in pretty bad shape and end up going on it then.

I know that it can stunt a child’s growth but what other complications can it cause- i read something about hair loss on the head and growth of facial hair.

Hair loss and growth of facial hair can actually happen WITHOUT treatment, in order for steroids to do that one would have to be on a pretty high dose. In late onset cah the androgens slowly build up over time. Some teen girls can end up with a mustache and beard, acne, the list goes on. But not all do.  Also the stunting of growth would happen if the replacement steroid dose is too high.

My personal opinion, I thank God I was dxed, it lead the way for my daughter’s diagnosis. Because she received treatment in time. She did not have to go through what I went through. She developed into a beautiful young lady without having to worry about facial hair and the such, she also will not have to worry about being infertile. Again not every person affected by cah is affected in the same way or severity. It is a tricky condition. I do not understand why some untreated women with locah lose their hair and some don’t.

Well I hope that I helped some. You may need to wait until Monday to get some more responses. Everyone is probably out braving the crowds shopping for tax free clothes this weekend.  So take a deep breath, everything will be okay. I know it’s hard to understand right now but there is a bright side. At least it is a treatable condition. I was so heart broken that my daughter had it too, but I did not realize at that time that she was actually lucky, because she was treated before any androgens could affect her appearance.

Good luck, let us know what the doc says. Take care
