My daughter had 3 sets of tubes, first 2 where ones that fell out on there own, 3 set was supposed to be a more perment set.  They did wonders for her ears.  Had to have special ear molds made to put in her ears for swimming and baths.  Turned out just fine.  My two sons had them done when very young, 1 around 2 1/2 and the other was 1.  They had them done together. Everything was fine.  They did not have the ear problems like there sister.  So if they say to get them done young, I would go with this.  Best of luck.
