my son nccah had his left trigger thumb fixed about 6 months ago.  trigger thumb is congential if it is diagnosed before the age of 3, and almost always it is the thumb. 

trigger thumb is also seen in older people, not congential.  it is usually cause by repeative motion in that thumb/ finger.
