re: Extra dosing for broken bones?

Hi Liz,

This actually happened to my grandson who is 8 yrs old SWCAH. Last year he was at school & during recess a boy kicked him off the monkey bars and he fell & broke his wrist.

I live 10 mins. away from the school but by the time he got back to class then to the nurse & the nurse called me it had been about 20  mins. later. I had told the nurse not to stress dose him because I knew he would need the injection.  I immediately gave him the injection  and went to the hospital. They confirmed his wrist was broken. The next day we went to an ortho Dr. and he got a cast put on for about 6 wks. They did check him about 3 wks later to do X-rays to make sure everything was fine. He only got the 1 injection and then we stressed dosed him for the next 2 days. The ortho Dr. talked with our endo & took extra precautions for the CAH.

Actually, it all went as any other person that would break a bone that was non CAH.

I know every child is different my grandson was fine within those 20 mins. or so!!!

The reason he went back to class was because he told everyone he was ok! He was embarrased!! Since then we have had many discussions about him being hurt & how important it is to tell them immediately!!!
