I am a nursing student, and a mom to a 19month old swcah boy. As a student we are taught that as a general rule, blood pressures are not checked on children under 5, and even after 5, not checked all the time unless there is an underlying cause to check it. As a mom, I know that CAH is one of those underlying causes. Florinef can make the BP too high, and not enough meds can cause it to go too low. Our Endo and Ped. always check my sons BP. I have had to ask the ER nurses to check his BP and explain why I want it done a few times though. Lots of teaching has to be done to ER staff on our part as parents of CAH children, or as people who have CAH I think, but I figure eventually I’ll have taught most of them at our local hospital and hopefully they’ll remember us next time! =o) Our pharmacist has actually taken it upon herself to research CAH so that she will have a better understanding of it for me and my son!Toni
