Book...a couple of other things!

I also wanted to mention a couple of things about how the book was produced:

In the interest of time, Dr. Rivkees and I elected to "self-publish."  This means that we paid a publisher (in this case, a company called AuthorHouse) to print the book for us (Alas, there is no cushy book or movie deal!)  We did not receive any grants or other financial support....all costs came out of our own pockets.  Because it was personally funded, we also did just about everything ourselves....the writing, illustrating, layout, proof-reading, etc.  We didn’t even have secretarial help!

As part of our Agreement with them, AuthorHouse will distribute the book for us through their own website, http://www.authorhouse.com/BookStore/ItemDetail.aspx?bookid=27871 as well as other Internet retailers such as barnesandnoble.com.  http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?ISBN=1420806491&pdf=y&userid=YG2iyqDCXR (I think they said over 25,000 internet retailers, though I couldn’t even begin to tell you who they all are!)

Self-publishing firms work on a "print-on-demand" basis.  This means that they print copies of a book, only after they receive an order.  I am told that it will take about three days for them to print each order (whether it is 1 book or 100), and another 3 days to ship it to an address in the US, via UPS Ground.  So, it will take about 6 business days to receive an order, if you are in the U.S.

I am also told that it is much cheaper to ship multiple copies of the book.  For example, if you order through authorhouse, S&H is $6.81 for 1 book; $7.32 for 2; $9.94 for 10; $12.87 for 20; etc.  As you can see, the costs go down significantly with larger orders, so people might want to "pool" orders, in order to save on S & H.  I am sorry, but we do not have any control over these costs.

It is our wish that everyone who wants a copy of this book will be able to receive one, regardless of financial circumstance. Unfortunately, as authors, we also have to pay for copies of the book (albeit at an author’s "discounted" price), beyond the 10 "free" that we will receive from AuthorHouse.  However, we are going to see if we can get some grant money to buy a stockpile of books to distribute to those who can’t afford one.  It may take some time to do this, though, so I hope you can be patient.  In the meantime, please feel free to email me, if you need help acquiring the book.  I will see what I can do.
