Crazy idea but what about a trip to the fire house and then your son can see where and the real reason for all those drills at school ? School field trip or just the two of you or other family. The fire fighters in my area do tours for the kids and they get to climb up in the engine cab, hear the bells etc.

I remember during school that I never liked the evacuation from the back of the bus myself because well.... I’m short and that was a long way down and would try to miss school because of it But : )  I eventually dealt by diving off into the bus drivers arms (what a nice lady), some bigger neighbor kids arms, or sometimes I sat down and slide off : )

I can see you reading  oh gosh she is short ...something else but I made my height : ) had a short bio father and mother. lol

Maybe you could practice the fire drill at home?
