I don’t see anywhere in the article where Dr. New is specifically accused of anything illegal. I have seen in the past where high ranking people who become aware of fraud will jump ship, rather than confront the problem. Their motivation is to continue in their career without risking the stigma of being a whistle blower or being accused of being a part of it. That sounds like what Dr. New may have done.

While some of the accusation are obviously serious, some appear to be nothing more than second guessing research decisions made by doctors and researchers.  While the circumstances may made some doctors look like they have their hands dirty, $877,000 doesn’t make the accuser look like a saint either.

It’s hard to separate what are appearances and what are actually facts.
