CherylWe have always lived out in the country with schools that have not always had school nurses. It seems that there is usually someone in the school that is used to giving injections becuase they are diabetic or have allergies. We always left solucortef at the school and our local paramedics keep a vial for my son. If by chance the school can’t give the injection the paramedics can. I really talk to the schools and drill in them that if my son is bad enough to call the squad he MUST have the injection prior to transporting him. In all honesty my son is in 7th grade and the school has never been put in the position of giving an injection. The only times my son has needed injections is due to the flu. The school will call as soon as they start with flu like symptoms. I have picked my son up several times and took him home for the injection. We usually have to give the injection once a year. I will say we are starting to worry a bit more now that my son is involved in sports.
I know how you feel, it’s hard sending a healthy child off to school. I’m glad I did. I don’t want to get into a debate on homeschooling, just that we are very happy with the education and consideration my son has received.
