re: re: Public School VS Home school?

I support both of these options. But what we found has worked for us is actually private schooling. I would have to rethink our options if my daughter had to attend the local public schools because I spent the day with the kind. through second grade school and was not impressed for various reasons. We live in the country and our schools are tapped out of money, so they have closed many of them and shipped the rest out to the outer suburb schools in our county. But before they closed the school I visited, I wasn’t impressed with. The good thing was they were only 5 minutes away from our home. Besides the poor curriculum they offered, I didn’t like the fact they didn’t have a nurse on call all the time. That was our huge deciding factor in deciding to send our daughter to a private school, public school, or home school. I wasn’t comfortable with OUR public school system. Where as you see below under the "First Bee Sting" post that there are sucessful school systems out there that support having any special needs child in their school. SO my advice to you is, go spend the day in your local public school. See what they have to offer. Interview them!!!! YOU know what your child’s needs are, and what YOU expect out of a school. We had opted not to homeschool because we live in a remote area, with no other children to truly have a social life with, and the fact my daughter is an only child with no siblings she didn’t have any good social skills with children her age. So we chose not to homeschool at this time. It was an option we thought about. My husband brought up a valid statement too. He said if we were uncomfortable with our daughter catching one million viruses that come about when going to school then that would be a wrong choice to make for her. Why? Because we want CAH to not control her life. We want HER to control CAH. If we chose to keep her at home to keep away from all the germs, one we wouldn’t be helping build her immunity system to become stronger, and two, we feared once she did get out into the work world or college world her body wouldn’t have the immunities it would have. BUT on the other hand there are SO many homeschoolers around my town that make sure they have big socials that they all attend. But, my main reason to consider homeschooling was to keep the germs away from her. Everyone has a different reason to homeschool. Some in my church cannot afford the private school that our church offers. They all homeschool because they want their children to be taught in a religious atomosphere. So there are so many different reasons to homeschool or to not. But if you are strictly doing to protect your son from germs, then you need to take a step back and see if you are truly protecting him or preventing him. YOU only know that answer, not me or anyone else. SO ask that question of yourself also. WHY am I trying to decide to homeschool or go to a public school? Private schools are also an option. Expensive if you have more than one, but some offer a discount, and tuition assistance. I have found that my daughter’s private school is outstanding in their care for all special needs children. They have from bee allergies, to many diabetics, to CAH. The nurse is there the entire time every day of the week. We are blessed. If I did not have the private school option would I homeschool? It would be a very strong option from what the public school had to offer. A very strong option. Good luck on your decision. Just make sure you are making this choice for the right reasons.
