Hi Susan,

I have 4 boys (11, 7, 4, and 1 (2 in Dec). My youngest two have CAH.  They have done well so far even with illnesses and injuries. In fact, my 4 yr old broke his leg at his YMCA Soccer game. He gets his cast off on Monday!!! Yeah!!!! My 1 yr old fell at a Halloween party and broke his fall with his forehead!!! He passed out momentarily , not from CAH but from the hit and needed 3 stitches!!! Thankfully, he got the stitches taken out last Friday and now you can’t even see where the cut was. He’s healed so well.

Now about their CAH. They are very well controlled. Seen by the endo every 3 months.  They are dosed 3 x’s  a day and it works for them. Genetically, they are classified as SVCAH but one takes florinef and one doesn’t.   They have never been in a crisis or even come close to one ( Thank God!!!) I hope they don’t ever have a crisis but I have the shot with me. In the case of the broken leg and the cut on the head I used extra cortef in pill form and it worked fine.  They are normal in every way. They do everything their older brothers (no CAH) did.  We don’t treat them differently.  My husband and I go out and they stay with babysitters and they go to a mothers day out program.  All children react differently to their condition. Only time will tell how your son will do.  Hopefully he will do fine as most do. I have met many kids from different workshops and some live nearby and all seem to go on as life as usual.  You are welcome to email me at billings6@sbcglobal.net. If you would like, you can call me. I’m also listed on the CARES website for TX support. You should check it out. www.caresfoundation.org

Take Care,

Sandra
