re: Dex and non affected babies

Hi Jill,

I took the dex with my 4th pregnancy and had a CVS and FISH test done at 10 weeks.  I stopped the dex as soon as we found out it was a boy. I chose to have a CVS because it could be done so much sooner than a CVS so I could minimize the exposure to the baby of me taking dex if it wasn’t really needed.  I did not have any problems while taking the dex. Yes, I gained some weight but...I could have put down that donut!!! BTW, I have lost all my baby weight and more....so that was not a big deal. I was actually the happiest I have ever been. I secretly wondered if maybe I should be treated with dex.... I did have terrible migraines which I have never in my life had, when I stopped cold turkey.   I was also anxious but that went away in about a month. I had a beautiful, perfect little guy and he is now going to be 2. So far I don’t see anything as far as side effects. He is very smart, hit all the milestones and is ready for potty training!! I think everyone reacts differently to meds and everyone is different.  It’s very hard to determine if the things people experience are really attributed to the drug.  There are antibiotics my kids have taken that are probably newer than dex.  I took it because I felt the risk of taking it was worth possibly preventing surgery if I had an affected girl.  If I had to do it again, I would take the dex every time. It was my choice and that is what it comes down to.

Good luck on your decision,

Sandra
