Well, I suppose your doctor meant that it has to start somewhere. In fact my son’s first endo told me that when I told her that if the DNA showed that I nor my husband was a carrier then it would have to be a mistake but then she looked at me and said that it has to start somewhere!  Science/biology can’t always be explained etc....so I guess a spontaneous mutation is a possibility.
