jennyLikewise with Cassy. It is a bad subject on this board about SSI.
It is not that we are labeling our child as disabled!!!!!!!! I’m not trying to discourage you from appealing this decision but here is my story. I’m not very happy about it at all.
Im the grandmother raising my 2 grandchildren. I gave up my job after 17 yrs because he was so sick when I got him at 3 yrs old. Due to his mother not proberly taking care of him. He has SWCAH. His mother (not my daughter) was getting SSI for him already. I had no idea about it. So when I found out this and was told she had been receiving the checks for almost a year later after I got custody. I in turn had to pay this money back to Social Security. Imagine that!!! She gave her kids way got the money & I had to pay it back. ANyway they took it away. So I applied and was denied. I got a lawyer & fought this for a very long time. The judge in a polite way told me if I keep him sick like his mother did I would get it.
My reason for applying: I cannot get life insurance for him, I do pay for the shot kits, I pay for his nasal spray for his allergies, and his meds out of my pocket. Since it was a pre existing condition my husband cannot get him on his medical insurance. The state does give us insurance but doesn’t cover somethings. It was going to be a supplement helping with his meds and medical needs.
Good luck & get appealing!!!
