Thoughts/Opinions Sought on Cortef Dosing
Dec. 8th, 2005   10:50am

We have a 7 month old SWCAH who has been sleeping for 12 hours a night since about when she was 12 weeks old. Our original endo who retired had no issue with us dosing her cortef 3x/day during her 12 hour awake time. Our new endo, suggested just the other day we try to spread it out more evenly across the 24 hr day or every 8 hours. Given her sleep schedule, this means waking her up once she’s been asleep for about 3 hours to give her the final dose of the day. To date, all her levels have been just fine but obviously, based on our originla dosing,  her adrenal gland would have extra time to work overnight albeit during the gland’s natural downtime. I’m just seeking some opinions on what some of your methods are out there and if it is indeed important to spread it out more evenly even at the expense of a solid night’s sleep. Further, for those that do it with a mid-sleep wake up, have you seen you child naturally wake up at that final dosing time after doing it that way and do they have a hard time getting back to sleep? Thanks in advance-Keith
