aimeeHi Anon,
I have a ball writing about CAH and I respect where you are coming from.
I wanted to point out the obvious (I’m a goofy blond- work with me here) that this is a medical site here and if a medical student needs a picture of a patient with impotence under diabetes to drive home that if a patience comes in with impotence to darn well check for diabetes also- unchecked diabetes ----blindness and if a pictures of impotence helps them learn as a visual aide one of the factors in diabetes then gosh yes - a good pic for a medical site - only in my opinion.
You wrote about kids looking up CAH? When I told friends about CAH? told them everything because???? drum roll the only reason you would tell friends is out of curiosity in that is the surgery up to snuff or just so they know. If you tell? you tell all.
My point of writing is that this was a medical site where students go to learn- yes I imagine people go there that shouldn’t including children that should always be supervised on the net - I think this site did have a section for kids.
Another point is that for CAH is that the picture are taken because the doctors are proud of the work that they do. A picture of percocious puberty and a picture after treatment. A picture of ambigous genitals and a picture after treatment so the surgeon can drum up more business. Pictures are taken to help doctors in less developed areas recognize things in their patients. A picture of a CAH child in good medical control (less darkening of the genital area vs. one in bad control - just one example. Medical conditions suck but we deal. yep my psych is craked from exams and pics but it’s how they learn to eventually help me and others that come down the line with CAH. I was born with 11-hydroxylase cah and the lab numbers for CAH? That is my Endos business and he does a good job - very happy to study and plot those numbers- that’s why he is the doctor but I do know that 11- hydroxylase only happens in 1 out of 1,000,000 so it makes sense that I was snaped and documented then cut loose. Do I flinch if people move to quick around me or reach to toch me without warning? errr yeah ...I’m a little better but everything that was done was in the name of science. Ummmm counseling way back would of helped but I’m a lost cause now ; ) This lab rat is really impresses at how far CAH has come.
I learned from this adorable med student that they like to connect real people with conditions and pictures do that.
