Dear Lisa,
Well, if the child’s parent are already in the system for child abuse then there is a state case worker monitoring all of this w/the DCF of LA working in conjunction with DCF of Florida.
I’m not quite following you about the foster mom in FL "found out she has CAH and suddenly couldn’t care for her" translation over the internet is sometimes lost but how could a foster mom have a child w/ CAH placed in the home for five days and then "find out" she has CAH.
If her parents are incarserated in LA then she was in care somewhere in LA along with her meds she needs for CAH. Maybe, the fact that she needed daily medicine for her CAH was lost somewhere but she was in care somewhere in LA since her parents are in "jail for child abuse " and therefore a known medical case to the state. She didn’t have cortef or florinef for five days? The case worker in FL wasn’t informed from LA? Who was respondsible for her in LA? How did you find out about the details of this case? What are the medical social workers doing for her @ your hospital?
As a nurse- aren’t you concerned about your patients privacy in concern to her medical condition? background checks etc? Ok, I saw were the fire fighters in one county threw a big party for all that were affected by Hurricane Katrina and later on Hurricane Wilma.
There are services that help:
Agencies connected to your hospital.
Medical services of DCF.
Help a Child Inc. - Statewide Medical Foster Care Program.
